Funkadelic - “Super Stupid”
1971
Sitting down with a donut and coffee on this Independence Day the big two hundred fifty, laundry going in the basement and yeah the pain in the jaw hit suddenly, me hoping I could get through the oral surgery recovery on just ibuprofen and acetaminophen but no it was time for the hydrocodone i.e. Vicodin. The first surgery in November hadn’t required the Vicodin until the third day and here I am on my fourth day thinking I’d skate by.
Take the pill, finish the donut (natch), pour another cup of coffee and brace for the fallout. My new best friend Google AI says coffee with Vicodin can be an adjuvant, which sounds good? Compose a witticism: “This Vicodin is making me walk into walls. I’m walking into walls, good thing I’m on Vicodin.” Huh probably as successful as my math meme or my Sunk Cost Fallacy/Wacky Packages humor attempt.
Laundry still in the works in the basement, use handrails to get down to the dryer and make way back upstairs. Dammit after four days straight of soft diet PBJs for lunch I want a grilled cheese but don’t trust myself in the kitchen especially with a gas stove don’t need a kitchen fire on this holiday Saturday or any other day but the damn thing about a PBJ is that it makes you go back for more chips and well the meds made me forget to not chew on the left surgery side and DAMN that Cape Cod reduced fat chip causes a severe bolt of pain into the lower mouth and jaw and f*ck where is that icepack to wrap around my head …had to give up on the Ken Burns Revolutionary War documentary because I can't decipher the ruse the Continental general was using to outfox the British one (reviews of this doc tended to say it got bogged down in military details geez that minutiae rivaled the independence orality gimme more maps with those flags and blue and red lines and troop movements) so I start The Dark Knight Rises better than my first watch after it came out yeah Kane isn’t that great of a supervillain certainly no one can touch Heath Ledger’s Joker in the previous one but the scope o’ the flick carries the day as I fade into the recliner and coffee, more coffee …
… at some point after World Cup action (aside from USA cheering it’s imperative to cheer for those eighteenth century colonial powers that supported our independence effort — France, Spain? Yay! England?? NAY) a movie needs to be found. Huh The Expendables is on Pluto, the subtitles don’t sync well so I’ll miss out on some of the intricacies of the dialogue but understand perfectly when Stallone is asked who sent him and he retorts: “Your hairdresser!” which is hilarious because the bad guy has a shaved head uh the good guys win in this one or at least aren’t expended then it’s time for Funkadelic on headphones with nightcap med and well you need more Funkadelic in your life always.
